Slotted Headstocks ~
Slotted headstocks are the traditional choice for instruments with 12 frets to the body necks. Of course slotted headstocks can be used on 14 frets to the body necks and indeed should be more often as they always make a fine visual impact.

My personal aesthetic favors a square ended slots with your choice of decorative veneer (Walnut burl or rosewood always look great) on the back of the headstock to highlight the transition into the neck.

~ Slotted headstocks have a smaller variety of tuner options however the selection is excellent and all that is ever needed.
~ Slotted headstocks require more time and care in restringing.
~ Less area for any inlays however I feel that the 'slotted look' has a similar visual impact that an inlay usually imparts.
